Acne Scarring & Enlarged Pores

Acne scars and large pores can affect your confidence and skin smoothness. We use collagen induction therapy to rebuild the skin’s surface, softening indentations and tightening pores.

Acne Scarring & Enlarged Pores

Scarring has to be rebuilt, not covered

Atrophic acne scars are tethered from below. Fibrous bands formed during healing pull the surface of the skin downward, creating the pits and shadows you see. Enlarged pores work similarly — the collagen scaffolding around each pore weakens and the pore wall dilates. Neither responds meaningfully to topical products, because in both cases the structure causing the problem sits well below the surface.

Effective treatment breaks down that old scar tissue and prompts the skin to lay down new collagen in its place. This is slow, deliberate work: a course of three to six sessions spaced several weeks apart, with results continuing to build for months afterwards. Active breakouts need to be settled before we start. We’ll also be straight with you about the outcome — significant softening and a smoother overall surface is realistic, complete erasure generally isn’t.

The Structure of Scars and Pores

Acne scarring (atrophic scarring) occurs when the skin heals imperfectly after inflammation, creating fibrous tethers that pull the skin surface down, resulting in "pits" or indentations. Similarly, enlarged pores are often a sign that the collagen support structure around the pore has weakened, causing it to dilate and appear larger.

Rebuilding with Collagen Induction

You cannot simply "fill" these issues; you must rebuild the skin's architecture. Our treatments are designed to break down old, fibrous scar tissue and stimulate the growth of new, smooth tissue.

  • Medical Microneedling: By penetrating the deep dermis, we trigger a release of growth factors. Over the following weeks, the body produces new Type III collagen, which plumps the floor of the scar and tightens the pore wall.
  • Professional Peels: For surface texture and post-acne discolouration, resurfacing the top layers to even out tone and smooth mild irregularities.
  • Skin Boosters: Hydrating the skin makes it plumper, which visually compresses pores and softens the edges of scars.

Why it happens

Scarring forms when skin heals after breakouts, leaving behind pits or indentations where tissue was damaged. Pores can enlarge in a similar way, as the support around them weakens over time. Because the real cause sits below the surface, skincare products can smooth the top layer but can’t reach deep enough to make a lasting difference.

How we help

We use collagen induction therapy (microneedling) to work beneath the surface, encouraging your skin to rebuild collagen and repair itself from within. This softens scarring and helps tighten enlarged pores over time. We may also recommend skin boosters such as Rejuran alongside this, to support overall skin quality and enhance your results. Most clients need three to six sessions spaced several weeks apart, with results continuing to improve for months afterward. We’ll always be upfront about what to expect, noticeable softening and a smoother overall texture is realistic, while complete erasure of scarring generally isn’t.

A Journey to Smoother Skin

Scar revision requires patience and consistency. While improvements are often seen after one session, a course of 3–6 treatments is typically recommended to achieve significant structural remodelling.

FAQs

Answers to common questions about our injectable treatments and aesthetic services

Can you completely remove acne scars?

While it is difficult to completely "erase" deep scarring, our treatments can significantly soften indentations, remodel the tissue, and dramatically improve the overall smoothness of your skin.

How does microneedling help with large pores?

Microneedling stimulates new collagen production. As this collagen forms, it plumps the skin and tightens the walls of the pores, making them appear visibly smaller.

How many microneedling sessions do I need for acne scars?

Scar revision takes time. We usually recommend a dedicated course of 3 to 6 sessions to achieve significant structural changes in the scar tissue.

Are chemical peels effective for acne scarring?

Yes, deeper chemical peels can help resurface the top layers of the skin, which is excellent for softening shallow "boxcar" scars and fading the red/brown marks left behind by acne.

Is microneedling safe for dark skin tones?

Yes! Unlike lasers, which target pigment and can carry risks for darker skin types, microneedling is a mechanical process and is safe and highly effective for all Fitzpatrick skin types.

Can I get microneedling if I have active acne?

We cannot microneedle directly over active, inflamed acne as it can spread bacteria. We will first clear the acne (often using specific peels or skincare) before treating the scars.
